This weekend was nearly a disaster when the laptop I keep all my school work on nearly bit the bullet. I knew my computer was about to die, but I kept telling myself it would make it to Christmas. Luckily, it escaped the weekend and will live another day and I’ve wised up and started using dropbox to back up my important data.

That said, why would a semi-tech savvy guy like myself not be wise enough to backup files?

Well, after thinking it through, here is a short list of why I don’t (or didn’t) back up my files.

I’ve gotten by before: Luckily most of the hardware I have used in the past has been fairly new and I haven’t had any problems. So why should I need to back up files now?

It’s easy not to: How easy is it to just ignore the fact that your files are completely unprotected from disaster? Turns out pretty easy. I hadn’t lost a night of sleep thinking about my unbacked up files.

I’m lazy: Really, do I have to take ten more seconds to make sure by files are protected? It certainly seems like I have much more important things to do.

And the number one reason I don’t back up my files is that I’m an idiot: Honestly, it’s really dumb not to back up your files, especially if you have anything that is even remotely important to you. Losing that data can cause immense headaches not to mention the added pain that comes from knowing the headaches were preventable.

Now let’s be honest. I know I’m not the only person out there who has made the mistake of not backing up important documents. Let’s hear everyone’s mistakes and let us know why you don’t back up your files.
